Insidious - Trailer Analysis

Insidious – Trailer Analysis Trailer Conventions: - The film Insidious is full of horror conventions. The horror genre is noticed straight away from the scary soundtrack and effects of the title being shown at the very start of the trailer. Another convention is of the establishing shot of the location and characters. The main location is in an American family home. This is known from the accent of the characters. An equilibrium and disruption is shown in this trailer. For example, at the start of the trailer, everything is normal and the family unit is fine. However, the disruption occurs and the shots get quicker, the sound gets louder and there are more sound effects to create suspense. The title ‘Insidious’ is shown popping in and out through the whole of the trailer to advertise the title as much as possible. The credits are shown which is very conventional and makes the film look professional. Narrative: - This trailer, like many does not follow the chronological order when putting the shots together. Instead, shows location and characters which allows the audience to connect and put together a picture of what may happen in the film. As you can see they are not giving away a lot to the audience, which is making them more likely they will want to watch it. The fact they are not giving a lot away is giving people questions of the unknown. Genre: - The trailer starts with a message revealing that some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. This revealing that there will be scary scenes. This already showing that it may be a horror genre. The soundtrack and sound effects are added in the background which is establishing the horror genre. This also, creates suspense and tension. The event that takes place is not revealed which will make the viewers want to watch the film. Target Audience: - Insidious is a horror film. Therefore, horror fans would be interested in this film. I believe this film is targeted at teenagers and adults because of the harsh and inappropriate content which may distress viewers. It states that the makers from Jaws and Paranormal Activity have produced this film. Therefore, many people who like those films, would be persuaded to watch it. Although a young child has been put in this film, it is not suitable for young children, which is clearly shown from the scary music and content.

The Woman In Black Trailer Analysis

The Woman In Black- Trailer Analysis Trailer Conventions: - The trailer starts with revealing titles of the companies who marketed and distributed the film. This reveals to the audience that the film is professional. There is also, an establishing shot of the location. This being the house where the events take place. The sound is quiet and slow at the beginning. However, starts to speed up running up to the disruption. Once the disruption occurs the shots get faster and the sound gets louder. This therefore, building tension and creates atmosphere. The girls voice who dies has been placed in this trailer, like she’s telling a story. This also, creating a scary feel to the trailer. Many characters have been shown in this trailer, giving the audience a chance to identify what could be happening in the film. Narrative: - Establishing the location of events and the characters involved in the film is very important when making a trailer as the audience needs to understand a lot of it to be able to connect and influence them to watch it. The shots are not in chronological order, allowing to audience to view a mix up of shots to give hints to what is happening, without revealing too much. The film is about a woman who haunts the house in which she once lived. However, her child died and whenever she is seen, a child dies. There is no obvious equilibrium, however, disruption is shown. This, therefore leaves the audience questioned to what happens. Furthermore, encouraging them to watch the film. Genre: - The trailer reveals at the start of the trailer that it is only appropriate for certain ages. This, therefore indicating that there is going to be scary scenes. This also, is promoting and revealing the horror genre. The scary music and the dark and misty shots gives away the horror genre. As well, as the broken, cracked dolls that are not so sweet. The girl’s toys make sound effects which is also conventional in a horror film. Target Audience: - The main audience which has gained a big following to this film is the Harry Potter fans who are a fan of Daniel Radcliffe. Daniel Radcliffe is known worldwide who has gained popularity from being the main character in Harry Potter. Therefore, the fans are intrigued to see what he is like playing a different character in a different film. The film is aimed at teenagers and adults. However, not appropriate for children from the scary music.

Ouija Trailer Analysis

Ouija Trailer Analysis Trailer Conventions: - The trailer reveals many conventions which would appear in horror films. Starting with the scary use of music which creates suspense and a sense of nervousness. Prior to the disruption, the shots are slow and steady, however, starts to speed up when the problems occur. Establishing shots of location and characters are revealed in this trailer to allow the audience to get an idea of what may happen in the film and get a connection with the characters which may make them more interested in watching the film. Film titles are shown throughout this trailer to catch people’s attention of the name of the film. Narrative: - Trailers do not reveal shots in order, as this reveals too much. Therefore, they mix the shots up to allow the audience to form their own idea about the narrative and what may happen in the film. The film is about a group of teenagers who find a Ouija board and play it. However, many things go wrong and one of them dies and causes disruption. The disruption creates a sense of excitement which makes the audience want to view it as they’re curious of what happens next. Genre: - The genre of the film is obvious when watching the trailer. For example, the conventions of the horror genre have been shown. For example, the fast-paced shots, dark scenes, creepy music and scary scenes which reveals that it is a horror genre. This indicates to the audience that it is not a normal film, yet will be disturbed and unusual. In the film, it states that the film will be released on Halloween. Therefore, hinting more that it is a horror film. Target audience: - I do not believe that this film is appropriate for children as it reveals scary scenes and content which may affect them. Prior to the film beginning, it also states that whoever is watching is at their own risk. I believe this film is targeted at older teens/adults who are male or female. This being because the actors are around the same age and mixed gender.

Film Distribution and Marketing

Film Distribution and Marketing

Film Distribution and Marketing The term film distribution is the process of making a film, so it is available for an audience to view it at the cinema or on DVD. The film distributers job is to decide how the film is actually released and to try bring every film to the market to try meet their audience needs and identify who their target audience is. Marketing and advertisement are very important when distributing a film as the aim is to make profit before the film’s release. This also is promoting the film and gaining more following, this, therefore, rising the probability of it being successful. To advertise the film, film distributers need to reach their target audience to be able to make the film successful. Also, doing this by creating magazines, posters, promo tours, interviews and social media posts. The most important area to attract an audience are at cinemas, this being, because this is where you can first view a film once it’s been released. Films can have a very big reach but some have been unsuccessful. The size of the reach depends on the profit and how well it has been marketed and advertised, prior to the release. After the cinematic release, distributers make offers to through companies such as Sky where they are extending the profit of the film in the long run. As well as releasing it through DVD and TV. The distribution plan is that the film distributers will make a plan of what techniques they will use in order to promote the film prior to its release. Before promoting a film, the company must claim rights to a film, write the screen play and make the film. At this stage, they will then release dates, posters and trailers. After all the marketing has gone ahead, the distributers will reveal the film to exhibitors, hoping that it can be shown in cinemas. A marketing plan is made in order to help film producers and production companies plan how they will achieve a range of different marketing strategies within a specific time frame. The plan starts with identifying the target audience and what they like of a film. The plan will consider different marketing situations, therefore, can see what films are doing well and which are not, which will give a question of why. The marketing company will then have to decide whether it is worthy of being shown in cinemas. Advertisment is the material which sells the film. This being posters and magazines and also merchandise. The promotion is the way of increasing the viewers knowledege of the film. This including the people staring in the film. Increasing the publicity is done by doing intereviews on TV shows. An example of a film in which had a huge hupe before it was released was the Woman in Black. The reason for this is because Danial Radcliff was staring in it. An example of a very successful film would be World War Z, which is an action horror film. The film was released in 76 countries worldwide, starting with the fiirst release in the UK, on July 2nd 2013, and ending in Venezuela on August 23rd 2013. In the USA the film was released in 3,607 screens on the opening weekend which made $66,411,834. One of the reasons this film has got a huge reach and is very popular is because Bradd Pitt is the main charatcter in it, being the main reason why the opening weekend was so successful.

Chosen Idea - Synopsis

Our final idea is to create a trailer about a school shooting. We felt, as a group, that this idea is unique and we like the fact that it is based on something that happens in real life. School shootings are common in America which are extremely sad, life threatening and frightening. We were very much inspired by the film Elephant, which has pushed us to create a trailer on a school shooting. Our synopsis:- The day that changed America, two young, psychotic college girls form a close bond who perform a mass execution of their class mates and teachers, all in one day. Kylie and Jenna, seem like ordinary, innocent girls but have the brains of killers and are very different to all the other students. The uncivilised pair walk through the school, fully armed and loaded, killing their first sight of human. However, the girls feel the guilt, but who kills who?

My Groups Individual Ideas For A Horror Trailer

As a group, our first idea was to create a trailer revolving around the synopsis as follows. An abandoned church ridden from the mysterious death of a young girl is brought back up when a group of teenagers decide to explore it. They came across a secretive hut of which the groundsman lives…They will have to fight for survival. Although, in our questionnaire we had a lot of people reply that they would watch the film, we also had people say no and maybe. Therefore, we decided to change our idea. Our next idea was to do a school shooting located in America. School shootings are very common in America and very frightening.

Mood Board - Description
